In this interview, Derek Sloan, project lead of the UNITE4TB Consortium, shares insights into the project’s efforts to transform tuberculosis (TB) treatment globally. As UNITE4TB approaches its mid-term mark, Derek reflects on the achievements, challenges, and ambitious road ahead. 

UNITE4TB proudly joined forces with the PAN-TB Collaboration at this year’s Union Conference on Lung Health in Bali, showcasing innovation and collaboration in tuberculosis (TB) drug development. The satellite session on 14 November highlighted the collective effort required to advance TB therapeutics from clinical trials into global public health programs.

As we near the one-year mark since launching UNITE4TB’s Phase 2B/C clinical trial program, which currently includes the DECISION and PARADIGM4TB studies, we reflect on the progress made.

On 26 September, UNITE4TB hosted its third webinar of 2024 and the 11th in its quarterly series, organized by project partners Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). The session focused on a critical issue in tuberculosis (TB) management: handling adverse events in TB care.

The threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and tuberculosis (TB) looms large over global health. A coalition of nine European initiatives, including the UNITE4TB Consortium, has emphasized the critical need for sustained investment in antibiotic and TB research and development.

We are proud to announce the successful completion of participant recruitment for the UNITE4TB DECISION trial. This achievement marks a pivotal milestone in our efforts to combat tuberculosis (TB) through innovative research and development. 

The 2024 UNITE4TB Annual Consortium Meeting and Joint Symposium with ERA4TB took place on 15-17 May in Sweden, kindly hosted by Consortium Partner, Uppsala University.

The UNITE4TB Consortium continues to disseminate project results with two new impactful publications.
