UNITE4TB's Young Investigators Group
To connect with early career scientists and develop strong outreach activities, UNITE4TB has established a Young Investigators Group (YIG) that is led by ISPUP together with ERS and TBNET. The members of this group have the opportunity to:
- Actively participate in the preparation of UNITE4TB webinars, engaging with different experts on TB-related topics.
- Actively participate in the webinars as discussants.
- Engage in fruitful discussions and debates with senior researchers and fellow early career researchers.
- Provide input on engagement with healthcare professionals and young researchers.
- Provide feedback and suggestions on the UNITE4TB dissemination activities.
Ongoing Activities
Webinar | Be a Discussant in ERS/UNITE4TB Webinars
Four webinars are planned each year, and two YIG members serve as discussants, with the following responsibilities:
- Preparation for the Webinar Discussion: This involves attending two preparatory meetings scheduled before the webinar, where the discussants will collaboratively review the content and outline key points with the speaker and the moderators.
- Active Discussant Role During the Webinar: The discussants will present the prepared discussions, engage with the speaker, and facilitate the session’s dialogue.
- Recap of the Webinar: After the session, the discussants will provide a concise summary of the webinar, which will be featured on the UNITE4TB website.
- Viewpoint Article Submission: Following the webinar, the discussants will write and submit a viewpoint article on a specific topic related to the webinar's content for publication in Breathe (the ERS journal).

Mentorship | Career Mentorship Program
The Career Mentorship Program offers a unique opportunity to support aspiring Young Investigators in their pursuit of excellence in TB research fields. As a mentee, you will have the chance to gain valuable guidance and career-focused advice that can make a real difference in your journey. Each mentor’s knowledge and expertise may help you navigate the challenges and opportunities of this exciting field, and provide tools needed to succeed. Taking part in the Career Mentoring Program will allow you to connect with relevant professionals to build effective career networks.
Upcoming Activities
Coffee Talks | Connecting Generations in TB Research
The upcoming Coffee Talks are designed to encourage senior members of the consortium to engage in casual conversations with members of the YIG to discuss and explore current hot topics on TB R&D, management, and care, in an informal, open, and constructive atmosphere. Each member of the YIG will have an opportunity to connect and interact with the invited researcher, discussing what excites them about TB research, what current challenges they might be facing, and career advice on their journeys as researchers.
Journal Club | PathBreakers: UNITE4TB Journal Club
The new UNITE4TB "PathBreakers" Journal Club will provide new opportunities for invited senior researchers to present and discuss with members of the YIG the main topics about new scientific outputs published, gaining new knowledge and insights about TB research done in the UNITE4TB consortium. Each member of the YIG will have an opportunity to connect and network with the invited researcher in a formal setting, fostering new fruitful discussions on the way forward on TB R&D, management, and care.
