During this year’s Union World Conference on Lung Health, the UNITE4TB Community Advisory Group (CAG) took part in the Community Connect session, held virtually on Wednesday 9 November. The Group explained how to engage the community in tuberculosis (TB) research and shared what they have achieved so far in UNITE4TB.  

In October, UNITE4TB held the fourth and last webinar of its 2022 series. The session took a deep dive into the pros and cons of rolling out new drugs and treatment regimens for tuberculosis (TB) without diagnostic capacity.

The UNITE4TB Consortium is employing advanced pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic modeling techniques and artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) techniques in its quest to select, test and deliver novel combination treatment regimens for drug-resistant and -sensitive TB.

Consortium partner, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, was delighted to continue preparations for the UNITE4TB clinical trials with a visit in July from Professor Nguyen Viet Nhung, Director of Vietnam’s National TB Programme, and Professor Michael Hoelscher & Dr Norbert Heinrich from LMU, our Consortium partner in Munich, Germany.

UNITE4TB hopes to act as a global forum for the exchange of knowledge and best practices with key stakeholders in tuberculosis (TB) drug research and development (R&D). It is our objective to work with these stakeholders to explore and implement synergies and collaborations.

A core body within UNITE4TB is the Community Advisory Group (CAG), established to ensure meaningful engagement with people affected by tuberculosis (TB) so that the views of the TB community are heard and considered throughout the project. The group comprises members from across the world with lived experience of TB and/or proficiency in working with TB communities.

This past July marked the one-year anniversary of UNITE4TB – a seven-year, €185 million project funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) 2 Joint Undertaking.  As we progress with year two, we take the time to reflect on the highlights to date.

The fourth and final UNITE4TB webinar of 2022 is taking place on Tuesday 4 October from 14:00-15:00 (CEST). Registration is now open.

UNITE4TB held its third public webinar on Thursday 7 July, with a focus on the recent changes in the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) and an evaluation of the evidence underpinning the shortening of TB treatment for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant disease.

Registration is open for the third UNITE4TB webinar, taking place on Thursday 7 July from 13:00-14:00 (CEST). The session will outline the recent changes in the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) and evaluate the evidence underpinning the shortening of TB treatment.

On Wednesday 4 May, UNITE4TB held its second webinar – part of a series of online events organized by Consortium partners, Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS).

Last week, 10-12 May, members of the UNITE4TB Consortium gathered at the Munich Residence in Germany for the 2022 Annual Meeting.

On 3 March, UNITE4TB held its first in a series of webinars organized by project partners, Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS).

Registration is open for the second UNITE4TB webinar, taking place on Wednesday 4 May from 11:00-12:00 (CEST). The theme for this session is tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics.

Each year on 24 March, World TB Day is commemorated to raise awareness of this devastating and deadly disease.
