UNITE4TB webinar: Progress made to date in shortening TB treatment
Registration is open for the third UNITE4TB webinar, taking place on Thursday 7 July from 13:00-14:00 (CEST). The session will outline the recent changes in the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) and evaluate the evidence underpinning the shortening of TB treatment. It will also address gaps in the evidence and questions regarding further shortening of TB treatment.
The last two years have seen unprecedented progress in shortening the treatment for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB. For example, the treatment for rifampicin-sensitive TB has been cut from 6 to 4 months for both adults and children with minimal disease. Furthermore, the treatment for many forms of drug-resistant disease has been reduced from 18 to 6 months. Despite this progress, there are still many unanswered questions that have not been adequately addressed.
Aim
The webinar aims to create an open space for discussion on the progress of shorter treatment regimes for TB, whilst providing space for reflection on the current evidence gap concerning clinical trials, as well as the future possibilities in this field.
