UNITE4TB webinar: Rolling out of new drugs without diagnostic capacity

The speakers for the session are Daniela Cirillo (Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Italy) and Richard Menzies (Respiratory Epidemiology Unit, Montreal Chest Institute, Canada), who will present the pros and cons of rolling out new drugs and treatment regimens for tuberculosis (TB) without diagnostic capacity.

The webinar will be moderated by Consortium partners Raquel Duarte (Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto) and Cristoph Lange (Research Center Borstel). As always, time will be made available for an open discussion on the topics presented.

Educational need

The last few years have seen unprecedented progress in the shortening of treatment for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB. Several new drugs and regimens have been discovered (or repurposed) but have been rolled out without accompanying diagnostic tools. In the long run, this may jeopardize the efficacy of these regimens.

Objectives

The webinar aims to create an open space for discussion on the progress made in terms of shorter treatment regimens for TB. It also hopes to provide a space for reflection on the current evidence gap and future possibilities in the field.
